What we did today:
December 19th: Today I brought my dog. We talked about pets and we talked about our plans for the holidays.We finally just played some games and listened to some music.

December 17th: Today we learned about winter festivals in different cultures around the world. We answered some questions as a team and we also started a crossword.

December 13th (FLEX): Today we had a TOC. We learned more detail about the elements of fiction and watched this short movie to write a sentence about setting using the following sentence frames: "In the short animation “The Fox and the Mouse”, the place was _________________________________. The time was _____________________________________. The mood was ____________________________.”

December 11th (Tutorial): I asked students to edit their questions for the class Kahoot as the rest of the students silent read. Once the questions were corrected we played the Kahoot. We then rewatched the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQGuVKHtrxc and replayed the Kahoot to evaluate the quality of the questions.

December 9th: After silent reading, we reviewed the most important parts of story. We rewatched the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQGuVKHtrxc and made Kahoot questions about the 5 main elements of story (setting, character, plot, conflict and theme)

December 5th (FLEX): I gave you feedback on your letters and we wrote good copies into holiday cards. These were mailed to members of the Canadian Armed forces.

November 27th (Tutorial): After Silent Reading today, we started discussing the question "What is essential to story?" After a brainstorm and a "gallery walk", we started to look at some key vocabulary including setting, character, plot, conflict and theme. We watched a short wordless video to see if we could identify the parts of the story. We will go deeper into that video next class.

November 12th: We did Silent Reading and we went over the handout "Emotions at School" to add to our vocabulary wordbank about emotions and personality adjectives. I explained that there will be a quiz soon about emotion words and gave an example of what the quiz will look like.

October 21st: As always, we silent read. After that, we did Drop Everything And Read - I read to you as you followed with your eyes to get more sight words. I gave back the "Personality Adjectives" handout for you to self-correct.

We then had a discussion about vowels (A,E,I,O, U and sometimes Y) and consonants (all the other letters). We talked about how vowel sounds are hard in English because one letter can have many different sounds.

October 15th: I was very sick today so another teacher came in to help me. We had an earthquake drill. We learned about onomatopoeia and wrote sentences with them. If we had time, we also answered a question about a poem.
